Polyurethane foam insulation has become one of the most-used void fillers in home construction and repair. It has many advantages over standard fiberglass insulation and is adaptable to many other uses.
Ease of Installation
One of the best features of polyurethane foam insulation is easy installation. Rather than rolling out fiberglass insulation, or cutting and fitting it into place, polyurethane foam insulation is simply sprayed where it is needed.
Void-Filling Capability
The nature of polyurethane foam insulation spraying is such that it expands when applied. This means that it will keep expanding until it reaches the limits of the void being filled, unlike fiberglass insulation that can be insufficient even when cut to exact dimensions.
Adhesion to Surfaces
Polyurethane foam insulation has an adhesive quality, so that as it fills the void, it adheres to the surface it touches. This is an added bonus, because polyurethane foam insulation spraying can bond studs, joists and other elements together for a stronger structure.
R-Value
Polyurethane foam insulation has twice the R-value, or resistance to heat flow/insulating value, than that of fiberglass insulation.
Small Voids
It is extremely hard to sufficiently fill small voids with fiberglass insulation. Polyurethane foam completely fills any void, large or small.
