Not only can you reset the memory on an HP Office Jet fax machine, but periodically--when the memory gets full--you must reset the memory or the machine will malfunction. The machine needs memory to be able to complete a job.
On the Other: Can't Always Control Size of Documents
Fax memory stores both incoming and outgoing faxes, so if you run out of paper and ink, you can print the faxes from memory once the paper and ink have been replenished. However, while you can control the outgoing fax, you can not control incoming fax. If you are away from your machine for a while and have several fax messages coming in, your memory can fill up quickly.
Bottom Line
The memory on an HP Office Jet fax machine must be reset periodically to keep it from becoming full and thus unable to store incoming fax messages. If you are away from the machine for a long time, have someone check the memory so you don't lose any incoming fax messages.
