In home decor, cut and loop carpet, or sculpted carpet, comes and goes. You may remember it in your grandmother's home, and now it's back again, but with new patterns that include swirls and geometrics.
Material
Cut and loop carpets are made with nylon, polypropylene, polyester and sometimes wool.
Tufted Loops
A cut and loop carpet is made from tufted looped fibers of differing heights. The higher loops are sheared off.
Mostly Loops or Mostly Sheared Pile
The finished carpet may be predominantly short loops with some areas of sheared pile or may be predominantly sheared pile with some short loops.
Color
The unsheared and sheared loops may be different colors or all the same color.
Textured Surface
Cut and loop carpets result in textured surfaces with subtle color variegation even if only one color of yarn is used, which helps to hide soil and footprints.
