Elmer Fridrich and Emmett Wiley were granted the first patent for the tungsten halogen lamp in 1959. However, according to the Smithsonian Institution, the lamp was never produced. In 1960, Fredrick Moby, an engineer for General Electric was granted a patent for a tungsten halogen lamp that could fit into a regular light bulb socket and therefore had more practical application.
