Both green and black tea have the potential to provide significant health benefits. Green and black tea are actually produced from the same plant. The difference between the two is in how they are processed. Green tea leaves are unfermented, whereas black tea leaves are allowed to oxidize.
Relaxation
Due in large part to the presence of the amino acid L-theanine, consuming green or black tea is considered a way to help yourself relax and even remedy anxiety and depression.
Cancer
Green and black tea are both touted as potential cancer fighters. Green tea, in particular, is the subject of ongoing research into ways to prevent many types of cancer, including cancers of the colon, lungs and pancreas. Advocates cite low cancer rates in countries such as Japan, where green tea is widely consumed.
Genital Warts
An extract of green tea, polyphenon, has been approved in the United States for the treatment of genital warts caused by the human papilloma virus.
Cholesterol
Green tea is known to lower total cholesterol while raising your level of "good" HDL cholesterol.
Heart Disease
Green tea and black tea are both frequently cited as safeguards against heart disease, particularly heart attacks and clogged arteries.
