Pediatricians specialize in caring for infants, children and teenagers. They treat childhood illnesses like chicken pox and measles. Pediatricians make sure childrens' height and weight correlate with their ages. Different types of pediatricians concentrate on particular aspects of pediatric medicine.
Neonatologists
Neonatologists are the first doctors to examine your baby. These pediatricians work with obstetricians to make sure newborns have healthy births and closely monitor premature babies.
Pediatric Endocrinologists
Pediatric endocrinologists diagnose and treat children with diabetes and growth disorders that delay or accelerate growth. They handle growth problems related to heredity, thyroid and nutrition.
Pediatric Dentists
Pediatric dentists care for the dental health of children from infancy to teen years. The American Academy of Pediatrics says they monitor gums and teeth for decay and assess whether or not a child may need braces.
Pediatric Oncologists
Pediatric oncologists diagnose and treat childhood cancers such as leukemia. The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance says these doctors understand that cancer in children starts and reacts differently in the body than adults.
Pediatric Therapists
Pediatric therapists work with special needs children. Therapists provide outpatient and home care to children, using exercise and physical therapy equipment designed for little bodies. They work with general pediatricians, social workers and parents.
