  • Windows Photo Gallery comes standard with all editions of Windows Vista and is also a part of the Windows Live programs that include Windows Messenger, Movie Maker, Toolbar and Mail. However, you can download and install the application at no charge if you accidentally deleted it or bought a used computer without the program. The installation is automatic and takes only a few minutes. You do need to have an active Internet connection for the download.

    Check System Requirements

Before you download Windows Photo Gallery, you need to check whether your computer has the necessary system requirements. You need a processor, or CPU, with a speed of 1 gigahertz or higher, at least 512 megabytes of random access memory (RAM) and 56.3 megabytes of free space on your hard drive. You can check your computer's processor speed and RAM by clicking the "Start" menu, right-clicking "Computer" and selecting "Properties." You'll see the information under "System." Click the "Start" menu again, select "Computer," right-click the "C:" drive, select "Properties" and check the available hard drive space next to "Free space."

Download and Install Windows Photo Gallery

Go to the Windows Live photo gallery download page and click the "Download" button in the right pane of the window. Click on "Save File" in the pop-up window to accept the download. Double-click the saved file once the download is finished, then uncheck all of the options except for "Photo Gallery." Click "Install" and follow the prompts to install the software. Click on the "Start" menu, select "All Programs" and click "Windows Photo Gallery" to launch the application once the installation is complete.
