<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: A GED Opens Opportunities
Having a General Education Development (GED) in lieu of a traditional high school Diploma provides the bearer with greater opportunities than what is available to those who are without either. After earning a GED, a person can then be eligible for better-paying jobs, military service and collegiate-level studies.
On the Other: One Can Make It Without a GED.
While it has been proven through a plethora of studies that having a GED is more useful to the individual than not, there are some people who have differing opinions on the matter. They argue that there are jobs available to people who do not have a high school diploma or GED. However, even these critics admit that employment options are extremely limited.
Bottom Line
In today's American society, it has become absolutely critical for individuals to possess a technical education and be as marketable in the work force as possible. Those who are without a high school diploma or the equivalent GED are at a severe disadvantage. As time goes by, more and more employers are requiring a minimum of a high school diploma in order to be hired. What is available to those without a high school diploma or GED is very limited, and the pay is exceptionally low.
