You typically urinate four to eight times a day, and anything beyond is classified as excessive. This might indicate certain health problems. See your doctor if you are experiencing excessive urination.
Urinary Tract Infection
Excessive urination accompanied by pain, urgency and a fever indicates a urinary tract infection. A short course of antibiotics can easily clear that up.
Prostate Issues
An enlarged prostate or a prostate infection can irritate the bladder and lead to frequent urination, regardless of the amount of urine present.
Diabetes
Frequent urination can be an early indicator of both types of diabetes. The body uses urine to excrete unused glucose.
Neurological Conditions
Neurological conditions---like a stroke---can affect the nerves that serve the bladder. This can lead to excessive urination.
Bladder Issues
You might also experience this problem if you have interstitial cystitis, bladder abnormalities and, in rare cases, bladder cancer. You might also have an overactive bladder.
Other Causes
Other possible causes include water pills used for blood pressure, radiation therapy and pregnancy.
