  • Cervical cancer typically results from infection with HPV (human papilloma virus), but is not limited to this. Certain signs and symptoms common to other gynecological issues manifest as a result of cervical cancer; to be safe, see your doctor if you experience anything out of the ordinary.

    Early Stage Cervical Cancer

Early stages of cervical cancer typically do not produce any signs or symptoms.

    Abnormal Bleeding

Abnormal vaginal bleeding can indicate cervical cancer. This bleeding tends to occur after sexual activity, post-menopause, between periods, after douching or after a pelvic exam. Your periods might also be heavier and longer than usual.

    Discharge

You might experience watery discharge---with or without blood---between periods or after menopause. It tends to be heavy with a bad odor.

    Pain

Pelvic pain and pain during sex can also suggest cervical cancer.

    Screening

Screening is one of your best defenses against cervical cancer. Cervical cancer symptoms typically do not manifest until the cancer is advanced. Get regular Pap smears and pelvic exams as directed by your gynecologist.
