Not everyone that has a heart attack experiences the classic symptoms of sharp pains in the chest area. There are some less common warning signs that result in only mild discomfort. It is important to know these warning signs to prevent delays in getting help.
Identification
Heart attacks are commonly caused by a blood clot that blocks oxygen flow to the coronary arteries. The heart is damaged due to the lack of oxygen and is unable to pump a normal amount of blood.
Less Common Warning Signs
Some of the less common symptoms of a heart attack include stomach pain, unusual chest pain, nausea, dizziness, shortness of breath without chest pain, unexplained weakness, fatigue and cold sweats.
Warning Signs For Women
Women may have different heart attack symptoms than men. Some of the symptoms that women experience are sleep disturbance, unusual fatigue, shortness of breath, anxiety and indigestion.
Considerations
According to the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), over 1 million people in the U.S. have heart attacks every year and nearly one half of them die. People can recover from most heart attacks if they get help right away.
Warning
Due to the fact that some heart attack warning signs are uncommon, get a doctor to examine you immediately if you experience any of the symptoms listed above.
