Infrared heating pads are devices used by people to relieve pain in muscles and joints by applying heat to the body. The infrared heat has several advantages over traditional heating pads.
Infrared Heat
Infrared heat is heat that is produced by an infrared light source. Infrared light is invisible to humans.
Pain Relief
The infrared heat relieves pain by heating up the area it is directed at. The body responds to the heat by sending more blood to the area, which reduces inflammation and brings more oxygen and nutrients to speed up healing.
Deeper Penetration
Infrared heat penetrates up to 6 centimeters in the body, while traditional radiant heat only penetrates 2 cm to 3 cm, according to the My Heating Pads website. This deeper penetration gets the heat to where it needs to go.
Less Heat
The infrared pads don't have to get as hot to penetrate, so they are about 20 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than traditional heating pads. This means infrared won't burn or dry out the skin.
Synovial Fluid
Infrared heat helps balance an enzyme found in the synovial fluid in joints, which lubricates the joint. This improves the overall health of the joint.
