Introduced to the public in the first half of the twentieth century, Barcalounger is a brand of lounging chairs and recliners. The Barcalounger company prides itself on its attention to design, quality and comfort.
History
Barcaloungers were first introduced in 1940 by Edward Joel Barcolo, who "acquired a license to manufacture 'scientifically articulated' motion chairs." Dr. Anton Lorenz first patented these motion chairs -- or recliners, as they are commonly referred to today.
Features
At Barcalounger, chairs are designed with quality in mind, paying careful attention to "how it sits, how comfortable." Features such as precision engineered frames, carved legs, deep padding, heavy gauge steel mechanisms and sinuous springs all contribute to the Barcalounger quality standard.
Movement
Barcaloungers move in several ways, providing more than up and down motion for the legs and back, as with many reclining chairs. They offer a rocker recliner, a swivel glider, wall lounger and many other moving lounge chairs.
Materials
Many people think of heavily padded, leather recliners when thinking of Barcaloungers, but the company features chairs in a variety of fabrics in addition to leathers. Also, customers can provide their own fabric for their Barcaloungers.
Location
Originally produced in Buffalo, New York, Barcaloungers are now manufactured in Martinsville, Virginia, which is also home to the company's corporate offices.
