The most widely accepted milestone for changing the oil in an auto is every 3,000 miles. As newer engine technology is created to improve engine life, owners of vehicles made after the year 2000 may be able to wait as long as 5,000 or even 7,500 miles to change the oil. Check with your user's manual to see how often you should change the oil in your auto. Remember to change the oil filter with each oil change as well.
