It seems silly to think about baking a cake in a bread machine--after all, by its very name, the machine is made for bread. It has settings to knead and bake; it will combine ingredients for you; and it will allow dough to rise for the proper amount of time. It can also provide enough heat for the bread to bake without an oven.

Many of the bread machine's settings and operations are the same as those needed to bake a cake. Of course, due to a cakes' varied shapes and ingredients, it won't work to bake all cake recipes in a bread machine, but many variations work just fine. Some bread machines even have a "cake" setting.
Bottom Line
Yes, you can bake cakes in your bread machine. To ensure best results, however, seek out cake recipes that are designed for baking in a bread machine.
