Women produce a low level of male hormones that cause hair growth. They are called androgens and consist of testosterone and other hormones. If a woman is growing too much hair in areas that she normally wouldn't, such as the chest, back, chin, upper lip, then her body is producing too many androgens. Causes may include genetics and certain medications.
