Lately there has been an discussion in Norway about whether or not to centralize the hospitals around the country. What do you guys think about centralizing hospitals and how far is it from your home to the nearest hospital?

    The nearest hospital to my house is approximately a mile away, but it is a mental health hospital (in-patient facility). The nearest medical hospital is approximately 11 miles from my house.

    When you speak of centralizing hospitals, do you mean location, or are you talking about politically centralizing them? (Socialized Medicine) Either way, I am not in favor of centralization.

    They are discussing the same thing in the UK.
    The next step is apparently forcing women to have their children at home because of closing down all the smaller maternity units and making the travel distances much farther.

    Personally I think this centralization is a bad idea, although we are a much smaller country

    It is about 9 miles to my closest Medical Hospital

    Thank you for your question.

    The nearest hospital is a kilometre or so from my house. Personally, I think that centralising hospitals in a national administration would be a mistake as I consider that they need some local control and accountability to local residents.
