  • Security system alarms are designed to set off a warning in a house whenever they sense an intruder or a fire. There are different "zones" of the alarm that correspond to where the sensors are placed.

    Purpose

Security system alarms are typically placed in the master bedroom. The zones of the alarm are to ensure that there is maximum protection in all areas of the house such as the living room, kitchen and garage.

    Zone Placing

Standard system alarms come with six to eight alarm zones. Typically a sensor is placed on the front door, indicating Zone 1. Another sensor might be placed on the back door indicating Zone 2, and so forth.

    Zone Combining

Two or more zones are often combined in the same place to add more security around the house when all of the zones of the security system alarm are used. For example, a group of windows may indicate one zone.

    Wireless Zones

Wireless security system alarms operate through wireless connection and do not need wired circuits. They allow only one sensor per zone, but offer more zones than the typical six- to eight-zone security system alarm.

    Keypad Functions

Keypad functions operate in the security system alarm. If a sensor is placed on a door set for Zone 3 for example, every time the door is opened, "Zone 3" on the keypad will light up.
