Hybrid cars have both an electric motor and a gasoline engine, so they run on a combination of rechargeable Nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries and gasoline. Plug-in hybrids have larger batteries (which recharge from a wall outlet) and use less gas than standard hybrids.
