<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Some Wrinkle Creams Are Effective
There is only one U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved drug, called tretinoin, for treating wrinkles, according to the MayoClinic.com. Retinol is the less potent form that is sold over-the-counter, and because it is less potent, the results people get with products containing retinol are not as good as they are with tretinoin.
On the Other: Some Wrinkle Creams Do Not Work at All
Because they do not go through scientific research, there is no guarantee that over-the-counter wrinkle creams work. The best that non-prescription wrinkle creams can offer is that some of them that contain certain ingredients may improve wrinkles, according to MayoClinic.com. If your wrinkle cream does not contain at least one of the following ingredients, it is not likely to improve wrinkles. These ingredients are retinol, hydroxyl acids, coenzyme Q10, copper peptides, kinetin or tea extracts (green, black and oolong).
Bottom Line
The only proven methods to reduce wrinkles are the prescription drug tretinoin, Botox, skin resurfacing techniques or a personalized skin-care regime from a dermatologist, according to MayoClinic.com.
