  • Concerta is a drug used to treat attention deficit disorder (ADD) and hyperactivity. It is similar to the commonly prescribed Methlyphenidate; however, Concerta is delivered in a time-release manner that allows your body to absorb the medicine throughout the day.

    Concerta makes it easier for children and adults to focus during the course of their daily lives. It has been on the market since 2001.

    Side Effects

    As with many prescription medications, there are several side effects associated with Concerta. These include insomnia, headaches, tension, anxiety, tics, abdominal pain, nausea, dry mouth, loss of appetite, hair loss, thyroid problems and sexual side effects.

    Generic Versions

    Generic versions of Concerta are being researched by many drug companies. These generics are not yet on the market, however research and patent applications began as early as 2004.

    Warnings

    If a patient begins to experience chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, hallucinations or extreme suspicion or paranoia, she should consult a doctor immediately.

    Family History

    Advise your physician of any family history of addiction, heart disease, mental illness or seizures as Concerta can worsen these conditions if not monitored properly.
