<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Circulate Air
Ceiling fans effectively circulate the air in a room. The movement of air makes a room feel cooler on a hot day. The fan keeps cooler air, which is heavier, from sinking and settling near the floor and disperses it more evenly throughout the room. When the room is being heated on a cold day, the fan pushes the lighter, warmer air down from the ceiling and distributes it throughout the room.
On the Other: Room Temperature
Ceiling fans do not actually change the temperature of the room and are less effective if the ceiling is less than 8 feet high. The blades should be 7 to 9 feet over the floor, 10 to 12 inches below the ceiling, and 18 inches from the walls to circulate the air effectively.

By distributing air evenly through a room, a correctly installed ceiling fan makes a room feel more comfortable in both winter and summer. This can effectively lower heating as well as cooling costs, regardless of whether or not anyone is in the room.
