HCG, human chorionic gonadotropin, is a naturally occurring hormone created during pregnancy. Doctors use synthetic versions of HCG injected under the skin or into the muscle to treat several medical disorders.
Testosterone Insufficiency Treatment
According to Drugs.com, if an adult male has insufficient testosterone production (hypogonadism), HCG injections may help increase sperm count.
Fertility Treatment
If a woman has fertility problems not caused by primary ovarian failure, HCG may make conception possible. In these cases, an intramuscular injection follows treatment with another class of fertility medications called menotropins.
Undescended Testicle Treatment
In boys with prepubertal cryptorchidism (undescended testicle), HCG injections may help a testicle descend to its normal place inside the scrotum.
Considerations
According to the Mayo Clinic, HGC use for an undescended testicle is less effective than surgery and may trigger the onset of abnormally early puberty.
Available Brands
Available brands of injectable HCG include Chorigon, Chorex, Pregnyl, Ovidrel, Novarel and Choron-10.
