  • If you are the kind of manager who welcomes suggestions about how to improve the services of your business, then having a suggestion box is probably a good thing. You can always buy one, of course, but why not save the money and build a classy wooden one yourself? A few scraps of wood, some basic tools and some friendly guidance, and you'll have one in no time.

    What You'll Need

For this project, you'll need a sheet of wood that's at least a half-inch thick and 38 inches by 58 inches in size. You'll also need a wood saw, sandpaper, a hammer, some small wood nails and at least one small hinge.

    The Procedure

Cut out two rectangles that will be the sides of your suggestion box, each at most six inches wide by 12 inches tall. Cut two other rectangles that are at most eight inches wide by 12 inches tall, and nail these four pieces together with like pieces opposite one another to form the basic structure of your box. Cut a piece that will fit inside the open rectangle at the bottom of your box structure from the remaining wood. Sand the edges until the piece fits snugly, and then nail it into place, flush with the bottom of the four side walls of the box. Cut a final piece to serve as the box's lid from the remaining wood, and attach it to the top of your box with the hinge and some wood nails. Be sure to position the piece and the hinge correctly before beginning to nail, as an incorrectly positioned lid will not move correctly and look terrible.
