<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Vinegar is Cleansing Agent
Adding vinegar to a water-based wood floor cleaning solution will help you achieve a spotless finish. MrsClean.com recommends making a solution of 1 cup white vinegar and 1 gallon warm water. Dampen but don't saturate a mop or cotton cloth and wipe the floors in small sections. Martha Stewart suggests adding one-eighth cup plant-based liquid soap and reducing the amount of vinegar to one-eighth cup. Add these to 1 gallon of water to cleanse exceptionally dirty wood floors.
On the Other: Vinegar as Shine Agent
The key to achieving a lustrous finish when cleaning wood floors is to be sure to properly buff the area. After cleaning the floor with the vinegar solution, immediately wipe each area with a cotton cloth or towel. This will give the floor a polished finish and reduce any spotting or drying inconsistencies.
Bottom Line
Vinegar is a useful and natural addition to wood floor care. Keep in mind that wood floors should never be sopping wet. Regular vacuuming and dusting will stretch out the life of your wood floors and reduce the frequency of washing.
