  • Injectable Winstrol is a type of anabolic steroid medication that is no longer sold in the United States. Despite its effectiveness at treating angioedema and some types of breast cancer or anemia, Winstrol poses a risk of side effects in some patients.

    History

Because of the side effects of injectable anabolic steroids like Winstrol, Congress passed the Anabolic Steroid Control Act of 1990, which made the drugs a controlled substance. Many manufacturers discontinued their products.

    Types of Side Effects

Common side effects of injectable Winstrol in men include a swelling of breast tissue, frequent erections, aggression and increased urination. Women often develop menstrual irregularity, increased body hair and deepening of the voice. Acne is a common side effect in both men and women.

    Drug Interactions

When taken with blood thinning medications like warfarin, injectable Winstrol poses an increased risk for prolonged or uncontrollable bleeding following an injury or surgery, reports RxList.

    Risks

Like all anabolic steroids, Winstrol use might lead to chemical dependence on the drug. Other risks include the formation of cysts on the pancreas or liver, liver failure, hardening of the arteries, prostate cancer and congestive heart failure, warns RxList.

    Considerations

Winstrol has the potential to cause fetal abnormalities and is not approved for use in pregnant women. The Mayo Clinic warns that Winstrol might also lead to problems for people with a history of diabetes, prostate enlargement or cancer, heart disease, kidney or liver disease, or elevated levels of calcium in their blood.
