Main Symptoms
The primary symptoms of heart failure include, according to Medline Plus: trouble breathing from exertion or from lying down; coughing; swelling of the limbs and abdomen; gaining weight; quick or irregular pulse and heart palpitations; trouble sleeping; feeling tired and weak; and poor appetite and indigestion.
Other Symptoms
The other symptoms of heart failure may include, according to Medline Plus: being less alert and having trouble concentrating; decreased urination and needing to urinate during the night; and feeling nauseated and vomiting.
Considerations
Sometimes symptoms of heart failure only begin in conjunction with another condition, such as arrhythmia (irregular heart beat), anemia, hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), infection causing fever and kidney disease, according to Medline Plus.
Features
The symptoms of heart failure along with chest pain indicate a heart attack, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Warning
Because of the serious nature of heart failure, the Mayo Clinic recommends that anyone who develops symptoms of heart failure seek medical attention.
