Actually...
If it's rarely used, the problem is probably the small electric motor which shifts you from 2WD to 4WD. You can either replace it (don't wknow what this costs) or you can do what my wife's Dad used to do for my wife's Explorer: He used to remove it, disassemble it to clean the brushes and whatnot, then reassemble it and put it back on.
If you do not periodically shift back and forth from 2WD to 4WD once in a while, then this motor will bind up mechanically.
Do you think a Honda CRF230F could make it through sand dunes??
