I used to go to shows all the time, (4 days a week) so I've seen quite a few bands. I've mostly seen pretty shitty live performances but of the hundreds of shows I've seen these are the few I treasure memories of... *Please note: This is all based on the PERFORMANCE, not on my musical taste. If you want to see a SHOW then these bands are who you need to see. *Mute Math- Alt/Experimental/pop Vocals are pretty good but it is their energy and crowd interaction where they excel. The drummer is fascinating to watch and some of their instruments are home made out of ordinary objects. Best live show hands down. Be sure you are in the front. Avoid area/ampitheatre shows, you will miss out on the crowd interaction. They are known for their crazy moves on stage, ex: Swinging from the cealing over the crowd, throwing drums out in the crowd then jumping on top of them and playing them while the crowd hold him up, doing handsprings on the keyboard, playing the drumsticks on random objects (ex: poles, the back of the keyboard, the sides of the drums, anything pretty much) http://www.myspace.com/mutemath *Monty Are I- Alt/Rock/Punk Vocals aren't that great but they are THE most energetic show, they do guitar tricks, jumps, lots of crowd interaction, and it is nice that they are not quite so popular yet so you won't be jam packed in a pit of people all fighting for front row. http://www.myspace.com/montyarei *Kid Beyond- Beatbox/pop/blues/techno Vocals are AMAZING. This man doesn't use any instruments for his music, only his voice. He is a beatboxer who beatboxes different styles from rock to techno. He did all the background music for Imogen Heap while she was on tour so she didn't have to bring many instruments or people on tour with her. He is a live looper and loops his sounds to "build songs." He literally builds them right in front of you compiling new sounds till the music is made and then he sings the lyrics. He is one of the more unique shows I seen. You'll get there and the first words that will leave your mouth is "What the... how is that...possible..." This is also a nice small show. Not many people are aware of him yet. If you want a show that will blow you away, this is it. http://www.myspace.com/kidbeyond Honorable mentions: Muse -Alt/rock- Musical talent/crowd energy http://www.myspace.com/muse Linkin Park -Rap/alt/rock- Vocals/crowd energy http://www.myspace.com/linkinpark Anathallo -Folk/pop- Uniqueness/band performance(literally like 9-12 people on stage at a time all playing different instruments.) http://www.myspace.com/anathallo Imogen Heap -pop- Vocals/visually stunning show http://www.myspace.com/imogenheap Andrew Bird -Folk/pop- Vocals (Whistling) http://www.myspace.com/andrewbird

I got to see 10000 Maniacs live minus Natalie Merchant which sucked and I got to see The Wailers minus Bob Marley which was good (pass the dutchie 'pon the left hand side) but the one Beck concert I went to was good but loud. He got sloppy drunk up there. Nearer the end he was reeling and went back stage for 5 minutes. Amazingly he was lively again. Hmmmmm!!! I don't see too many live performances though.

AeroSmith and The Police

Kool& The Gang.
-
The Waterboys would have to take that title. I don't see nearly as many live shows as I'd like to, but damn... That Mike Scott puts on one hell of a show!
-
Pink Floyd.
