  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterized by distraction, inattention, fidgeting, impatience, constant talking and interrupting. Although symptoms of ADHD usually appear between the ages of three and six, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders notes that, "because many overactive toddlers will not go on to develop ADHD, caution should be exercised in making this diagnosis in early childhood."
