    Pancreas

    Pseudomyxoma peritonei may also be caused by tumor cells spreading from the pancreas.

    Spread of Tumor Cells

    Once the tumor cells have entered the abdominal cavity, they may spread throughout your abdomen. These cells do not usually spread throughout the body as normal cancer cells do, but concentrate their location to the lower abdomen.

    Mucus-Producing Tumor Cells

    The cells associated with pseudomyxoma produce mucus, if not treated, can produce enough mucus to interfere with the normal function of the organs in the abdominal cavity and eventually lead to death.
