<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: 75 Percent Success Rate
According to the website of the drug rehabilitation program Narcanon International, their success rate for rehabilitating drug addicts is "second to none." They say that "outside studies" confirm that 75 percent of the people who actually complete the program successfully quit drugs and do not relapse. They claim that "other programs" have a success rate of only 30 percent on average.
On the Other: Most People Quit
According to the website Narcanon Exposed, one of the studies touted by Narcanon as evidence for their success rate was found to have used an extremely small statistical sample (61 people), of whom only a tiny fraction (14 people) actually completed the program. Thus, they claim, conclusions about the true success rate cannot be drawn.
Bottom Line
In the study reviewed by Narcanon Exposed, the rate of rehabilitation among those who did not complete the program was 41.6 percent. This is higher than the 30 percent success rate that Narcanon claims other rehabilitation programs have on average. A simple Internet search shows that the only institution saying good things about Narcanon is Narcanon.
