In medical billing, information on procedures is classified according to the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and the International Classification of Disease (ICD) codes. Medical billing specialists must take CPT and ICD-9-CM coding courses.
Law and Ethics
Medical law and ethics courses train billing specialists to handle private medical information according to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other regulations.
