<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Special Detergent Exists for a Reason
According to KidsHealth, org, some babies have conditions that make their skin extra sensitive. Unfortunately, you may not know if your baby has a skin condition until you wash her clothes in regular detergent and she wears them. Uncomfortable rashes and itching can lead to open sores and excessive crying--also leading to less sleep for parents.
On the Other: Special Baby Detergent is a Gimmick
Baby detergent has no dyes, fragrances or additives that could cause irritation. However, many companies offer detergents that do not contain any of these potentially irritating ingredients, and the word "baby" is nowhere on the label. Putting the word "baby" in the title of the product allows companies to charge more for a dye-free, fragrance-free product that many adults already use every day.
Bottom Line
Switch to a detergent that is free of fragrances and dyes, and use it to wash all of the clothes in the house. This will prevent irritation and eliminate the need to do separate loads of laundry for the baby's clothes.
