It is always a good idea to put birds of equal size and type together when you want them to share a cage. In that way, keeping two of the same species, such as Eclectus, together makes perfect sense and should work well.

On the Other: Personalities and Temperments

There is never a guarantee two birds will get along, even if they are the same species and opposite sexes. You will not be able to tell by temperaments, and even bringing two birds together prior to purchase to see if they cooperate is not a good indication because it can take days, weeks or even months for them to feel secure enough to be themselves and decide they do not like each other.

    Bottom Line

Birds can, and will do grave damage to each other if they decide they do not like each other. This is especially true of large breeds like the Eclectus. Never buy a second bird with the thought of putting it together with another. House in a separate cage and slowly introduce them on common ground. Even when you decide you can safely put them together always watch for signs of aggression and be prepared to separate them.
