Frontline Plus (fipronil/(s)-methoprene) is considered a safe product, and overdosing is uncommon. Since Frontline applicators are dose-controlled and applied in on area dogs typically cannot reach (between the shoulder blades), ingestion of enough product to cause problems is highly unlikely.

    On the Other: Excessive Amounts

If your dog does manage to lick Frontline Plus off of himself or another dog in the house, he may have excessive salivation for a few hours, mostly related to the alcohol base of the product. If he somehow got into the package and ingested a significant amount of product, there may be other side effects. In that case, call your veterinarian or an animal poison control center immediately, and follow their instructions.

    Bottom Line

Most dogs will not lick Frontline Plus. For those that do lick the product, the potential side effects are mild and short-lived. In the rare instance that a dog ingests a large amount of the product, veterinary care may be necessary.
