There are certain items that the groom or his family traditionally pay for during a wedding. Although the rules are not always strictly adhered to, these are the basics for what a groom pays for.
Rehearsal Dinner
The rehearsal dinner is entirely up to the groom and his family. From the invitations to the venue to the menu and decorations, the planning and paying is the groom's responsibility.
Flowers
The bride's bouquet, corsages for the wedding party and family and a bride's going-away corsage are traditionally paid for by the groom. Many times, the bride budgets for these in her own floral budget and plan.
Rings
The groom traditionally pays for the bride's engagement and wedding ring. With more couples living together before the wedding, however, the money is more likely to come out of a joint account.
Honeymoon
The groom is in charge of paying for the transportation, lodging and food during the honeymoon. He also takes charge of planning the honeymoon, with little or no input from the bride.
Extras
The wedding license, officiant's fee and any medical tests for the groom himself are paid by the groom or his family. He also pays for his own tuxedo as well as the ties, vests or cummerbunds that the groomsmen wear.
