    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

Andrew Smith Hallidie, an engineer and inventor, created the first plans for a cable streetcar in 1871. In 1872, the first tracks for cable streetcars based on Hallidie's design were laid on Clay Avenue in San Francisco, California.
