  • NetMeeting XP is an older version of a teleconferencing program created by Microsoft. It was replaced with Windows Meeting Space from Windows Vista, also created by Microsoft.

    Function

NetMeeting is a teleconferencing program that allows several people in different locations around the country to hold conferences, meetings and presentations over the Internet.

    Features

In addition to audio and video, NetMeeting allows applications or programs to be shared with everyone in that particular conference or presentation. It also permits files to be sent and includes a chat feature similar to America Online's Instant Messenger.

    History

NetMeeting was developed by Microsoft as a separate download for use with Windows 95 and 98--operating systems are no longer supported by Microsoft. Windows 2000 and XP include NetMeeting in their installations, and computers with these operating systems still use NetMeeting today.

    Considerations

All users in a conference must have Netmeeting installed. Windows 95 and 98 are no longer supported by Microsoft and the download site has been redirected to Windows Meeting Space.

    Equipment Needed

In order to use NetMeeting, you will need a microphone, stereo headphones, a digital subscriber line (DSL) or Ethernet connection and the Netmeeting software. A 56 kilobits per second dialup (phone) connection will not work properly.

    Activating NetMeeting

Conf.exe is the program that activates the NetMeeting setup. Click on "Start," then "Run." Type in "Conf.exe" and click "OK" to activate the NetMeeting configuration.
