    There are several types of alarm systems but the most commonly used ones are intrusion alert (aka burglar alarm), anti-theft, fire and life safety alerts, and camera surveillance.

    Most alarm systems come with really cool features that gives you the added security that you will know what is happening at all times. For example you can receive a call/and or page when an event triggers your alarm system. There is two-way monitoring that allows the operator to talk to you without the use of a phone by mounting small microphones and speakers throughout the house. This allows the alarm company to listen to sounds in your home when the alarm is triggered.

    The benefits of an alarm system include the added security that your most prized possessions are protected whether it be your home, your car or business.

    History

    Edwin Holmes invented the first burglar alarm system in 1858. It was a simple device that consisted of a spring that was released upon the opening of a window or door, that would then close an electrical circuit.

    Misconceptions

    Many people believe that they don't need an alarm system if they rent an apartment or a condominium but these types of properties also experience burglary-related crimes.
