Discreet relationships don't always involve sex. They can involve espionage, commercial or political relationships that one or more of the parties wants to keep secret.

Or it could involve someone working in a controversial/embarrasing area about which they don't want others to know.

A classic example would be someone who pretended to be and told their parents/friends/relatives as well as the general public that they were, for example, a crack-whore, pimp, wino or vilolent criminal when in reality they were on the Answerbag Staff.
