In the United States, 48 states and the District of Columbia require car owners to buy insurance coverage before they can legally drive on the roads. Illinois is one of the states that requires car owners to carry auto insurance. The state law in Illinois requires car owners to have bodily injury liability coverage of at least $40,000 to cover the injury or death of more than one person in an automobile accident. State of Illinois law requires car owners to have property damage liability coverage of at least $15,000 to cover damage caused to another person's property in an automobile accident. In addition to owning liability auto insurance policies, Illinois law also requires the car owner to keep the insurance card in the vehicle at all times. The insurance card, issued by the insurance company, acts as proof of insurance and explains the terms and amount of the coverage. Very good and incredibly accurate response. Should you be out shopping for insurance, though, remember that you need to have uninsured/underinsured coverage as well. State minimum on this is also 20/14/15... :)
