Lewis and Clark began their expedition traveling down the Ohio River before traveling up the Mississippi River and connecting with the Missouri River near St. Louis. The crew continued on smaller rivers such as the Jefferson and Beaverhead before continuing on the Snake River and finally the Columbia River out to the Pacific Ocean.
