Different cruise lines offer different sizes of staterooms. Size is seldom a problem for most passengers because many of them spend the majority of time on the deck or in the dining room.
Inside rooms
Inside rooms are those not on the hull. Prices are often lowest for these rooms. According to CruiseCritics.com, since these rooms are not a premium, they're usually smaller, darker and quieter. These rooms are usually 185 square feet.
Outside rooms
Built on the hull, outside rooms are around 190 square feet. These rooms are those with widows that provide natural lighting.
Family rooms
Many cruise lines are considering the needs of entire families vacationing together. These rooms are up to 230 square feet. Ships built after 1994 often include balconies.
Other room sizes
Ships such as Disney Cruise Lines, according to CruiseCritic.com, offer huge family rooms up to 304 square feet. These rooms can sleep up to five and offer twin beds.
New innovations
According to Cruisemates.com, modern ships offer extra amenities for their passengers. "Penthouse," "Owner's" and "Presidential" suites offer the most luxury, and even more room to breathe. These types of suites include separate dining areas, verandas and even bathtubs.
