A person who has a dual citizenship is a citizen of two countries. Like a regular citizen, the person must abide by each country's laws, but also gains access to special government programs only allows to citizens.
Cause
A person automatically earns dual citizenship if he is born in a country to immigrant parents or if he is born in a foreign country to a parent who has citizenship in another country. A person may also gain citizenship by applying for citizenship in a foreign country or by marrying somebody from a foreign country.
Responsibilities
According to travel.state.gov, people with a dual citizenship are required to obey the laws of both countries. They may also be required to fulfill other requirement of being a citizen, such as paying for taxes or being eligible for mandatory military enrollment.
Advantages
According to richw.org, people with dual citizenship have more freedom in regards to where they can live or work.
Disadvantages
Being a citizen of both countries can be more expensive--the person may be required to pay taxes in both countries, even if he only lives in one country.
Issues
According to Find Law, not all countries recognize dual citizenship, including the United States.
