  • Ear infections are painful, and they can cause headaches, fevers and even potential hearing loss. An infected ear may have a buildup of wax that needs to be removed in order to treat or resolve the infection. You can try a couple of home methods to unclog an infected ear.

    Unclogging infected ears

Fill a small bowl with warm water, and add an equal or slightly less than equal amount of hydrogen peroxide. Take an ear syringe, a bubble syringe or a small dosing cup and fill it with the mixture of water and hydrogen peroxide. Lie on your side with the infected ear facing upward, and insert or pour some of the mixture into the ear. Remain on your side for 5 to 15 minutes so that the hydrogen peroxide has a change to soak into the source of the clog. You should be able to hear and feel the bubbling action of the hydrogen peroxide in your ear. Once the bubbling has stopped, press a towel against the infected ear and turn your head the other way, so that the remaining hydrogen peroxide can drain out of your ear. Once you have drained the remaining hydrogen peroxide out of your ear, you can use the remainder of the solution to rinse out your ear, one syringe or dosing cup dose at a time. You can also use a mixture of equal parts hydrogen peroxide, mineral oil and vinegar oil in an eye dropper to unclog infected ears. A few drops in the infected ears daily soften and break up ear wax, help it to flow out and kill any bacteria that are present.
