  • If your computer suddenly loses power while you are working on a document in OpenOffice, or a virus causes damage to the files on your computer, you may find that your computer can no longer launch OpenOffice. OpenOffice is capable of performing a repair operation which scans for and replaces any damaged files required by the program. Run a repair operation to reinstall OpenOffice and return it to functioning normally.

    Repair OpenOffice

In all versions of Windows, the repair operation for OpenOffice is performed from the Programs menu. In Windows XP, click the "Start" button, then click "Control Panel." Double click "Add or Remove Programs." If you do not see this option, click the "Classic View" link on the left side of the window. In Windows Vista and 7, go to the Control Panel using the same method, but double click "Programs and Features." If you do not see this option in Windows Vista, click "Classic View," and in Windows 7, click "View by: Small icons." Click on OpenOffice, then click the "Change" button in Windows XP. In Windows Vista and 7, right click on OpenOffice and click "Change." Click the radio button labeled "Repair" and click "Next." Click "Install," and the process will be completed automatically. All of the files for OpenOffice will be overwritten with new copies, replacing the files that are damaged.
