"Bully" is a term that refers to dogs who are of bulldog or terrier origin or relation. Bully breeds are often misunderstood breeds, such as pit bulls, bull terriers and bull mastiffs. When raised properly, however, dogs of these breeds can be just as loving as dogs of any other breed.
North American Bully Breeds
Common North American (United States and Canada) bully breeds include the American Bulldog, Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog, Valley Bulldog (Canada), American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and the Boston Terrier.
European Bully Breeds
Common European bully breeds include the Olde English Bulldogge, the English Bulldog, the Boxer (Germany), the French Bulldog, The Staffordshire Bull Terrier (Great Britain), The Bull Terrier (Great Britain) and the Bull Mastiff (Great Britain).
Weight
The weight of a bully dog can range from 10 pounds (Boston Terrier) to 50 pounds (Olde English Bulldogge) and up to 130 pounds (Bull Mastiff), ensuring that there is a bully breed to accommodate the needs of any home.
Size
Just like their weight, the size of bully dogs can vary greatly. Some breeds can be as large as 27 inches (Bull Mastiff) or as small as 11 inches (French Bulldog).
Temperament
Many bully breeds are misunderstood and thought to be naturally aggressive. Aggression is a taught characteristic, however, and bully breeds can be raised to be loving, affectionate dogs that are a wonderful addition to any family.
