According to Payscale.com a tax preparer can earn an average of $8.30 to $24.99 per hour. Many H&R Block locations start first-year preparers at the state's minimum wage. Preparers also earn a bonus (2-20 percent) based on all profits made from income taxes that were prepared. Pay will vary by location as well as whether the office is corporate or franchise.
