According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, medical records and health information technicians, including medical coding specialists, made a median salary of about $28,000 in 2006. The lowest 10 percent earned closer to $19,000 while the highest paid made more than $45,000. These workers made more money in hospitals, outpatient care facilities and nursing homes than they did in physicians' offices.
